When the Mexican War came along, Battery E was part of the Brownsville episode and withstood a siege of 160b days.
The event at Picacho Pass was “the westernmost battle of the Civil War,” Young says.
Today, the State Park pays respect to the battle with on-site monuments and a re-enactment each March of the Arizona skirmish and the two New Mexico battles of Glorieta and Val Verde.
"Everybody has a position, and a thing that they're doing and everyone is concentrated on that," she said.
Both Appelt and Bolton are two of the about 650 people who are helping to do the reenactment this weekend.
About 250 re-enactors in period costume and equipment participate, Young says.
