"At the time and place this force was used, there was no justification at all to sic a police dog on somebody," Sykes said.
Officers say he didn't follow orders to stand up when they entered his home.
“After reviewing this incident, we found that the officers acted appropriately,” said Sgt.
The K-9, Eddie, was taking a break in a field when a child came running around the school building. The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation began, and on June 15 the police department decided to remove the dog from the police force.
“Our city attorneys have determined that it is more economical to put this behind us then to draw it out in court,” Roberts said.
